The University Certificate in Counselling Women applies contemporary feminist theory to the practice of counselling. It develops basic counselling and problem-solving skills with a particular emphasis on crisis intervention skills and helping women solve specific and everyday problems.

This program is suitable for both volunteers and professionals currently working as crisis workers, social workers, family life educators, adult educators, nurses, teachers and vocational counselors.

Please note that this certificate is offered through distance education. You will receive course materials in the mail and submit your assignments and contact your tutor via email.

This certificate prepares students for careers in a wide range of fields, including teaching, social work, women's crisis centres, criminal justice, health care, law, policing, journalism, counselling, human resources, union officer, international aid officer, and policy analysis.

  • Excellent English reading and writing skills. Please complete the English Language Assessment. Then copy your test results and email along with other documents supportiing your scholarship application.

To complete this certificate, you must complete 10, three-credit distance courses.

If you have extensive workplace experience in counselling, you may apply for Prior Learning Assessment to receive credit for your previous learning to reduce the number of courses required.
